1. Who we are

2. What we collect

• ·Information you send us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, and whatever you write in the message.
• ·Usage data. Pages viewed, referring site, approximate location derived from IP, browser and device type, and time on page. This is collected by our analytics provider in aggregate.
• ·Cookies and similar technologies. See section 4.

We do not ask for, and have no use for, sensitive categories of personal data.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

3. Why we use it

• ·To answer messages you send us.
• ·To understand which guides are useful and which are not, so we can decide what to write next.
• ·To attribute affiliate referrals, so that a retailer can credit a purchase to this site.
• ·To detect abuse and keep the site working.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

4. Cookies and affiliate tracking

This is the part most relevant to how this site makes money, so it is worth reading.
When you click an affiliate link on this site, the retailer or the affiliate network that manages the programme sets a cookie in your browser.
That cookie records that you arrived from here, so that if you buy something the commission is attributed to this site.

• ·The affiliate cookie is set by the network or retailer, not by us. We never see your payment details, your cart, or what you bought as an individual.
• ·What we receive from the network is aggregate reporting: number of clicks, number of orders, and commission totals.
• ·These cookies expire on the retailer's schedule. For most programmes this is between 7 and 30 days.
• ·Blocking third-party cookies will not break this site. It only means a purchase you make will not be credited here.

We also use analytics cookies to count visits.
You can refuse cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Where required by law, we ask for consent before non-essential cookies are set.

5. Who your data is shared with

• ·Our hosting and content delivery provider, which processes requests in order to serve the site.
• ·Our analytics provider, which processes usage data on our behalf.
• ·Affiliate networks and the retailers in their programmes, when you choose to click an affiliate link.
• ·Authorities, if we are legally required to disclose.

These providers operate in the United States and elsewhere, which means your data may be processed outside your country of residence.
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

6. How long we keep it

• ·Contact form messages: kept while the conversation is open and for up to 24 months after, then deleted.
• ·Analytics data: retained in aggregate. Individual-level records are not retained beyond the provider's default window.
• ·Anything we are required by law to keep is kept for the period the law specifies.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict how it is used, receive it in a portable format, or withdraw consent you previously gave.
California residents additionally have the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

To exercise any of these, email hello@compactedit.com. We answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK and you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to your local supervisory authority.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS.
Access to the systems that hold contact messages is limited to the people who need it.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

9. Changes to this policy
